Greetings all. I am Arlene Murray FASD Coordinator at The Open Door. I find it fitting to follow suit and tell you about "Arlene's World"
I have the priviledge of working with some very awesome individuals who by no doing of their own face many day to day struggles and challenges. They are the one's who battle the 100% preventable disability called Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. Otherwise known as FASD. Meaning their birth mother consumed alcohol while pregnant with them.
This past week I attended FASD Intervention Training, hosted by the great gals Stacy Wolbeck and Amanda Lindholm of Prairie Central FASD Network. It was conducted by the very informative Donna Debolt FASD Specialist. The turnout was great. It was wonderful to see a variety of professions in attendance. FASD does exist and the complications it causes affect many of us. Knowing more people are becoming educated on this topic definitely assist with the issues many of my clients regularly battle.
Having said all that I must tell you I get to work with some amazing, kind, loving, giving individuals who at times teach me what is important in life. They have taught me to appreciate more and acknowledge the things one often takes for granted, They teach me patience and show me what unconditional love really is. They have shown me that often the things we are taught and expected to know is not always what we may remember to do tomorrow. They show no prejudice although they experience it regularly....They have allowed me to see life in a different light. And for that I will be forever grateful.
