The Open Door Camrose and Wetaskiwin Helplines are 24 hour, 7 days a week confidential services staffed by a multidisciplinary team. Our Helplines provide support, information and referrals to individuals experiencing crises.
Steps that occur once an individual calls our Camrose or Wetaskiwin 24/7 Helplines:
1. A member of The Open Door staff will answer the call and attempt to deescalate the individual's situation. 2. We assess the risk level of the situation that is described by the individual.
It is important for individuals in crises to feel heard, so The Open Door staff remain active listeners throughout the duration of the call.
3. We actively triage the individual's needs - the actions taken during the triaging stage will vary depending on the individual's means for calling the Helpline.
If the individual is requiring food or warm clothes, we will coordinate the safest and most efficient way of providing the individual with the required necessities.
If the individual is experiencing a mental health crisis, we use our trained discretion to call 9-1-1 if deemed necessary.
4. We engage in a referral process that involves having an Open Door Navigator follow-up with the individual and/or referring the individual to additional support services within the community (e.g., mental health and addictions support).
If you or someone you know needs help, please call our Helplines. The Open Door team is here for you.
